This session is a fantastic overview of SEO that includes several great resources.
One thing I liked about it was when Duane covered the “12 Things to Know about SEO.” On this topic Duane covered key ideas about keywords and also key points about site architecture. If I understand it correctly, a good wordpress theme will automatically do most of the architectural points he covered like sitemap and cannonize your urls.
Along with the “12 Points to Know about SEO” was the slide where he covers “6 Major Investment Areas for SEO”, these 2 slides could go hand in hand.
This slide can serve as a detailed checklist for my site. I will use it to make sure my site is optimized as best as it can be.
One slide that was a surprise to me was the “Where Does SEO Fit In?” slide. On this slide he ranks SEO as 5th place and before SEO there is Content, Social, User Experience, and Link Building. I was most surprised that Social was ranked in 2nd place, as I thought it would rank lower.
There are a number of resources Duane shared that I want to spend some more time using. One of these is schema.org, I can use this to make sure I am using the best wording on my content.
A few resources he mentioned that I discredited at first are the Bling Keyword Research Tool, Bling Link Explorer, the Bling SEO Reporting, and the Bling SEO Analyzer. The reason I did not like these was because they are Bling tools and not Google tools however in the Q&A someone asked if this is relevant to Google and Duane said it is, so I will take a second look at these tools.
He included a slide with several more tools that I want to look up. Some of the tools on this slide I have not used are Statigram and Instafriends, both for Instagram.
In addition there is a slide with even more Social Media Management tools. Most of these tools I had not even heard of so I will have to take some time to look each one up. There are 18 total and the only ones I am familiar with are Alexa and Google Insights.
Overall this was a presentation packed full of valuable information and resources. I will go back to it time and time again because it will take me quite some time to master all that Duane Forrester covered.
