SEO For The Common Man
Today’s world is constantly changing. From clothing styles, to music, to the way we do business. Many business owners are trying to keep up with the ever changing world, primarily with the means of how to successfully market their business and gain new customers. We’ve gone from door-to-door sales to online retail, so the methods used to grow your business are drastically different from years ago.
We no longer have to assume a large overhead to have a business and physically go out and deliver fliers to local residents to generate traffic to their store. Today the store is online, via a website, and customers are generated through online marketing efforts to drive traffic to that site.
So you may ask, what is SEO?
SEO, Search Engine Optimization, is the process of improving your website to make it more pertinent to what consumers are actually looking for using the search engines.
I recently watched a video by Darren…that gave great detail and explanation to SEO and it’s purpose. You can watch that video here: https://www.stukent.com/expert-sessions/learn-the-basics-of-search-engine-optimization/. Following is a recap of the video and some crucial elements to understanding and executing SEO for your website.
First, why use SEO? Well, it’s much cheaper than paying for advertising like print or radio. You are able to control and increase your relevancy to the consumer demand, increase your website exposure, page visits, page views, and most importantly, increase your revenue.
Now that you’ve decided to invest your time in SEO, there are some important factors you’ll want to be aware of.
It doesn’t happen overnight and it’s more than a one-time effort. It will work if you put the work into it. You will need to do some research and locate the keywords most pertinent to your website and it’s content. It’s pointless to create content that no one has expressed interest in. Your efforts will equal no return in your investment. You will need to familiarize yourself with some technical aspects of SEO, such as, ensuring every page has crawlable text, understanding the importance of your headline <h1> and key meta tags. These are just a couple of examples. Social media has become a staple of everyday life and allows us to promote our business and gain organic followers and promote to a more targeted audience. As we all know, it’s a free method of marketing.
Now that you have a general understanding of what SEO is and what it can do for you, it is easy to see that with some thought and effort, you can cost effectively drive traffic to your website and generate more revenue. And all of this done on your laptop, at a location of your choice, while liking pics of your high school girlfriend’s vacation in Jamaica or how cute her cat is.
